The Morse Tigers will venture away from home to take on the San Diego Cavers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Morse is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Morse will bounce into Friday's game after beating Coronado, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Tigers came out on top against the Islanders by a score of 12-7 on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Hailey Truby and Abby Okita did most of the damage at the plate: Truby went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Okita got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs. Beyah Salvador was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for San Diego, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They put the hurt on Crawford with a sharp 16-1 victory on Wednesday. The Cavers haven't had any issues with the Colts recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Myah Rickman made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Andrea Murphy was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, five stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of KeyonaMae Simmons, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.
San Diego kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Morse is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for San Diego, their record now sits at 9-16.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Morse hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. However, it's not like San Diego struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Morse's way against San Diego in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Morse made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
