Cannon has gone 8-2 against Providence Day recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chargers at 4:30 p.m. Cannon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Cannon is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Charlotte Latin just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 5-4.
Cannon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addie Hartz, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, while Providence Day put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Charlotte Country Day School. The Chargers put the hurt on the Buccaneers with a sharp 8-0 victory. Considering the Chargers have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Rachel Lyons made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Audrey Glosson was excellent, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. Elizabeth Tebbit was another key player, earning one run and two stolen bases.
Cannon's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 11-6-1. As for Providence Day, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cannon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Providence Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Cannon was able to grind out a solid win over Providence Day when the teams last played two weeks ago, winning 6-1. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
