Sonora is 9-1 against Sunny Hills since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Sonora Raiders' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Sunny Hills Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Hopefully Sonora is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sunny Hills in California (Sonora is ranked 120th, while Sunny Hills is ranked 264th).
Last Friday, Sonora lost to La Habra at home by a decisive 60-46 margin.
Meanwhile, Sunny Hills was able to grind out a solid victory over Troy on Friday, taking the game 56-46. The win made it back-to-back wins for Sunny Hills.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sunny Hills to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nathan Sanchez, who scored 20 points along with nine assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sanchez has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Shim, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Sonora's loss dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Sunny Hills, their win bumped their record up to 14-9.
Sonora took their victory against Sunny Hills in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 63-40. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Sunny Hills' Kingsley Ashley, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Sonora still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
