The DuBois Beavers are taking a road trip to face off against the Clearfield Bison at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. DuBois will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
DuBois lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Clarion Area, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's match. The Beavers blew past the Bobcats 8-1 on Tuesday. Considering the Beavers have won five games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
DuBois got a massive performance out of Talon Hodge, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Hodge has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Wingard, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Clearfield not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 26, 2024 (when they won 18-0). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Penns Valley Area an 11-0 shutout. The victory was some much needed relief for the Bison as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on Noah Wriglesworth, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Kam Kushner, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Clearfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
DuBois pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Clearfield, their record now sits at 3-6.
DuBois' speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Beavers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Clearfield, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will DuBois continue to outrun the ball?
DuBois came out on top in a nail-biter against Clearfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Beavers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
