The St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Vallejo by a score of 56-54. Yes, you read that score correctly, and yes, they were playing football.
St. Patrick-St. Vincent's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Trevor Moelk, who threw for 338 yards and five touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Jones, who picked up 164 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Jasier Smith was a one-man wrecking crew for Vallejo as he threw for 365 yards and eight touchdowns. Sedrick Vaughn was another key contributor, picking up 88 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
St. Patrick-St. Vincent's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 5-4. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Vallejo, Kennedy, and Salesian College Preparatory. As for Vallejo, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Patrick-St. Vincent will face off against Saint Mary's at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Vallejo, they will head out on the road to face off against Richmond at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Richmond comes in on a streak of failing to score more than six points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
