The Rawlins County Buffaloes will head out on the road to take on the Cheylin Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Rawlins County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
Last Friday, Rawlins County ended up a good deal behind the Ringnecks and lost 65-51. Rawlins County has not had much luck with the Ringnecks recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Braxton Dixson, who scored 13 points. Peter Crouse was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Cheylin was handed a 29-point loss in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against the Coyotes on Saturday. Cheylin had just enough and edged the Coyotes out 54-51. The victory was just what Cheylin needed coming off of a 68-39 loss in their prior contest.
Pablo Bermudez was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. He has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brady Ketzner, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Rawlins County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Cheylin, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Rawlins County have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Cheylin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Rawlins County didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Cougars in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 65-61 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rawlins County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
