Softball Recap: Riverside Now 9-1 over Last Ten Games

Riverside won the last time they faced Irvin and things went their way on Friday too. The Rangers were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Rockets. Considering the Rangers have won 16 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaylee Castro looked comfortable as she pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cassandra Acosta was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Julie Muniz, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Riverside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irvin only posted a batting average of .235.

Riverside has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Irvin, their loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-19.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Riverside is set to take on their familiar foe Bowie at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Irvin will challenge rival Austin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
