The Wendell Trojans are taking a road trip to challenge the Buhl Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wendell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 14.4 runs per game this season.
Last Monday, Wendell got the win against Firth by a conclusive 21-2. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Macie Bird and Breanna Comstock were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Bird struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Comstock tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bird has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Bird scored two runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-4, while Comstock scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those five stolen bases gave Bird a new career-high.
In other batting news, Nayeli Juarez was a standout: she scored three runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Olmos, who scored three runs while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.
Wendell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Buhl beat Mountain Home 7-3 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won six in a row.
Like Wendell, Buhl also got a great game from a two-way player: Meghan Blacker. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Blacker was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Buhl let Jenna Ambrose and Adalyn Pearson run wild. Ambrose scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Pearson scored a run while going 2-for-4. Aubry Kinyon also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Wendell has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Buhl, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Wendell suffered a grim 16-6 defeat to Buhl when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
