The Nebraska City Pioneers can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They secured a 47-41 W over Conestoga. The win was just what Nebraska City needed coming off of a 48-20 defeat in their prior contest.
Tarryn Godsey was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 16 points, 18 rebounds, and 15 blocks. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Malayna L madsen, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
Conestoga's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Davida Garrett, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Garrett hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Danielle Ahrens was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Nebraska City's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-11. As for Conestoga, their loss was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-14.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nebraska City's road trip will continue as they head out to face Platteview at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th. As for Conestoga, they will square off against Raymond Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Raymond Central presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Conestoga in Nebraska (Raymond Central is ranked 90th, while Conestoga is ranked 261st).
