Cornerstone Charter made up a huge gap compared to their last game against River Mill, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 14-6 victory on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cardinals needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Aubree Reaves was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Reaves was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Cornerstone Charter got a massive performance out of Delaney Hollern, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. What's more, Hollern posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Ava Haynes also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Leadership Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak last Friday. They came up short against Clover Garden School, falling 21-10.
Alexandra Faenza led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Emory Maxwell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Cornerstone Charter picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 5-8. As for Leadership Academy, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cornerstone Charter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Leadership Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .466. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cornerstone Charter took their victory against Leadership Academy when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 9-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
