I Section I recap Oct. 9, 2012
St. Mary's was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to fifth in I Section I. The Knights defeated Maryvale 50-0 earlier in the week.
Westview made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,249 from 3,549. The improvement was the result of 35-21 victory over the Knights last week.
Valley Vista's dynamic duo of Dalvin Richardson and Terry Juniel proved tough for Tolleson to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Richardson threw for 146 yards and three touchdowns and Juniel had 84 yards receiving. Isaiah Padilla helped Valley Vista's passing attack out by catching two balls for 43 yards.
Jermaine Shannon was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 172 yards on 30 carries as Alhambra defeated the Wolverines. Shaquan Granison also contributed to the rushing game with 74 yards on the ground.
St. Mary's' Gabe Losada and Lukas Treffers have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Losada has thrown for 1219 yards this season, while Treffers, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 56 catches for 626 yards. Shannon from the Lions leads the league in rushing with 963 yards.
Alhambra's Shannon is a mere 37 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
A big matchup in I Section I this week will be when Hayden takes on Westview. The Falcons are in sixth place, while Jeff Bowen's team is in second place.
