Granbury hasn't had much luck against Azle recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Granbury Pirates will welcome the Azle Hornets at 5:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Wednesday.
Last Friday, Granbury got the win against Saginaw by a conclusive 13-1. That looming 13-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Pirates yet this season.
Addison Goodman tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
At the plate, Hannah Dafoe was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Rachel Venable was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Granbury always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Azle not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25, 2024. They put the hurt on Saginaw with a sharp 12-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Rough Riders: they've now won four in a row.
Fallon Inglet made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Inglet was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Bella Tipton was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Ema Lehr, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Granbury's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-8-1. As for Azle, their win bumped their record up to 4-5-2.
Granbury came out on top in a nail-biter against Azle in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Does Granbury have another victory up their sleeve, or will Azle turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
