After flying high against the Richwood Lumberjacks two weeks ago, the Greenbrier West Cavaliers came back down to earth. Greenbrier West was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 65-64 to Midland Trail. Greenbrier West has not had much luck with Midland Trail recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Midland Trail's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaden Gladwell, who scored 18 points. That's the first time this season that Gladwell scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Campbell, who scored 17 points along with five assists.
Greenbrier West dropped their record down to 4-4 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for Midland Trail, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greenbrier West will take on Pocahontas County at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Pocahontas County comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Midland Trail, they will head out on the road to face off against Independence at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Independence knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Midland Trail likes a good challenge.
