Having just played yesterday, the West Jefferson Buccaneers will head out on the road to face off against the East Iberville Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on December 19th. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: West Jefferson has struggled recently with 15 defeats in a row, while East Iberville will arrive with four straight victories.
On Monday, West Jefferson took a serious blow against Phoenix, falling 52-21. While losing is never fun, West Jefferson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 350th, while Phoenix is ranked 160th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Mariah Melancon, who scored six points. Another player making a difference was Jala Raymond, who scored six points.
East Iberville has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 25 points or more this season. They blew past Baker, posting a 68-21 win on the road.
West Jefferson bumped their record down to 0-12 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for East Iberville, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
West Jefferson was able to grind out a solid victory over East Iberville when the teams last played back in December of 2022, winning 46-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Jefferson since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
