The Belen Jesuit Wolverines will square off against the Canterbury Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Belen Jesuit is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over Dade Christian on Wednesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wolverines as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, Canterbury never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Cooper City as they made off with a 12-0 win. The Cougars not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 25th.
Ashby Piatt was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Canterbury is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8 otherwise. Piatt was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
In other pitching news, Alex Daltrui looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, JT Huether was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Keifer, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Canterbury lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Canterbury and bumps their season record up to 11-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Belen Jesuit, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.
Belen Jesuit suffered a grim 13-7 defeat to Canterbury in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Will the Wolverines have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
