Brimfield has gone a perfect 3-0 against Abingdon/Avon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Indians are taking a road trip to square off against the Tornadoes at 4:30 p.m. Brimfield will be strutting in after a victory while Abingdon/Avon will be coming in after a defeat.
Brimfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Astoria/VIT with a sharp 17-0 win on Monday. The Indians have beaten the Rebels the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rebels has come to flipping the script.
Griffin Hougham looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dane Fagerburg, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Quinton Johns also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Brimfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Astoria/VIT only posted an OBP of .294.
Meanwhile, Abingdon/Avon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Bureau Valley.
Abingdon/Avon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Foutch, who went 1-for-5 with one stolen base and one run.
Brimfield's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Abingdon/Avon, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Brimfield has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Abingdon/Avon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Brimfield took their victory against Abingdon/Avon in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 17-4 score. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tornadoes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
