The Broughton Capitals the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Broughton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while Cardinal Gibbons is ranked 92nd).
Last Friday, Broughton came up short against Sanderson and fell 63-54.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jordan Page, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Hudson Fitzgerald, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Gibbons scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Leesville Road, posting a 80-50 victory at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Cardinal Gibbons has posted yet this season.
Cardinal Gibbons got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cash McSweeney out in front who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Smalls, who scored 18 points along with five assists and four steals.
Broughton has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Cardinal Gibbons, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5.
Tuesday's game is shaping up to be a blowout: Broughton hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 54.2 points per game. However, it's not like Cardinal Gibbons struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 61.1 points per game. The only thing between Broughton and another offensive beatdown is Cardinal Gibbons. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Broughton skirted past Cardinal Gibbons 58-56 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Will Broughton repeat their success, or does Cardinal Gibbons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
