Softball Recap: Royal Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Royal had already won eight in a row dating back to last season (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Cashmere Bulldogs as they made off with a 20-13 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-5 on Saturday.

Jill Allred was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and 12 unearned) runs off ten hits. Allred was even better at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, Emerson Eilers was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Bergeson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5.

Royal pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Cashmere, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Royal is headed away from home for the first time to challenge Wahluke at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wahluke has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 26.5 runs per game on average), something Royal will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cashmere, they are taking a road trip to square off against Brewster at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
