Volleyball Recap: Alton Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Alton had to endure a five-match losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Hazelwood East Spartans 3-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-0 back in September.

Alton took Hazelwood East into a fifth set where they got it done with a four-point win. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-12, 15-11.

Alton can attribute much of their success to Lucy Lehmann, who had nine digs and three aces. That's the most aces Lehmann has posted since back in September. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Milford, who had 15 assists and six aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Alton was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 19 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

Alton's record now sits at 8-18. As for Hazelwood East, their loss ended a five-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7.

Coming up, Alton will face off against Granite City at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Hazelwood East, they will challenge University City at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
