The Aquinas Blugolds had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.4 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They snuck past Xavier with a 71-65 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Aquinas found their leader in underclassman Samantha Davis, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Davis has scored at least 25% of Aquinas' points. Madeline Murphy was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Aquinas' win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Xavier, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Aquinas will take on Sparta at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Xavier, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Green Bay East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
