Marist scored a shocking upset when it eliminated Benet Academy, 49-21. At the time, the Redwings were ranked 15th in the state, while the Red Hawks were 29th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Marist, who defeated 15th ranked Benet Academy, 49-21.
St. Viator's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Bobby Calmeyn threw for 264 and 5 touchdowns and Ben Dickey had 97 yards receiving. On the ground Joey McIntyre chipped in 104 yards. Matthew Darling helped St. Viator's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 88 yards.
He was 23-38 with 1 interception.
Colin Perry was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Lions bested Marian Catholic. The 6-foot-3 defensive lineman racked up 1 sack.
McIntyre was the most successful running back in East Suburban Catholic this week. He ran for 104 yards on 19 carries as St. Viator defeated the Spartans. Tyler Johnston also contributed to the rushing game with 14 yards on the ground.
St. Viator's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Lions feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Calmeyn has thrown for 2,057 yards and 22 touchdowns this season, while Dickey has 53 catches for 772 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Patrick New's team takes on Joliet Catholic Academy. At the moment, the Redwings are in fourth, while the Hilltoppers are in first.
Pat Dunne's team was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Benet Academy. The Red Hawks came in at 18 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
