Mid Valley has gone 9-1 against Old Forge recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mid Valley took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Honesdale an 11-0 shutout. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Elise Larson was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Parker Bennett, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Old Forge got the win against Riverside on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-1.
Kamryn Notari made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, Old Forge let Kate O'Hearn and Joselyn DeStefano run wild. O'Hearn went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one run, while DeStefano went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI DeStefano has posted since back in March. Ava Arnold was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Old Forge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Mid Valley pushed their record up to 12-1-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Old Forge, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.
Old Forge's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Mid Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Old Forge, though, as they've been averaging only 3 strikeouts. Will Mid Valley keep running through batters, or will the Blue Devils buck the trend?
Mid Valley beat Old Forge 6-1 when the teams last played on April 3rd. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
