South Anchorage is 9-1 against Service since November of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wolverines are taking a road trip to challenge the Cougars at 5:30 p.m. South Anchorage will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
South Anchorage not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since October 16th (when they won 3-0). They put the hurt on West Anchorage with a sharp 3-0 victory.
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant South Anchorage was: they took every set by at least 12 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-3, 25-5.

South Anchorage's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jessica Gieser, who had ten digs and five assists, and Indy Kmet, who hit 70.6% for 12 kills and nine digs and two aces. That's the most assists Gieser has posted over her last 13 matchups. Loryn Peterson also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
They weren't the only good servers: South Anchorage was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Service was able to grind out a solid win over Bettye Davis East Anchorage on Tuesday, taking the game 3-1. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Thunderbirds: they've now won five in a row.
South Anchorage better focus on containing Jaelyn Lorenzo and Taralena Fine as the pair were huge in Service's win. Lorenzo had 12 digs and one assist, while Fine had two aces and two assists.
South Anchorage's record now sits at 37-3-1. As for Service, their record is now 24-12-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: South Anchorage has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Service struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
South Anchorage was able to grind out a solid win over Service in their previous matchup last Tuesday, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
