They came out on top in a nail-biter against Brevard Christian on Friday and snuck past 46-43. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Melbourne Central Catholic also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Hayden Deane was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with three steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Melbourne Central Catholic's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Hamilton, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Despite the loss, Brevard Christian saw an underclassman step up: Samuel Mitchell scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. The contest was Mitchell's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Justin Williams, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Melbourne Central Catholic's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Brevard Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Melbourne Central Catholic will square off against Pineapple Cove Classical Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Pineapple Cove Classical Academy is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Brevard Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Edgewood at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Edgewood is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
