The Tomball Memorial Wildcats will head out to challenge the Klein Cain Hurricanes at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Tomball Memorial will be strutting in after a win while Klein Cain will be coming in after a loss.
Tomball Memorial took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They had just enough and edged Magnolia out 5-4. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Emma Coombs was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Erwin, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Lacey Matheson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
Meanwhile, Klein Cain was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Klein Oak.
Kameryn Byrd was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bailey Beard, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Tomball Memorial's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Klein Cain, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
Tomball Memorial came out on top in a nail-biter against Klein Cain in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. Does Tomball Memorial have another victory up their sleeve, or will Klein Cain turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
