Anderson Filla was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jax Kusel, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Merek Charney, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Highland came tearing into Saturday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Eagles.
Like Akron, Highland also got a great game from a two-way player: Sawyer Morgan. On the mound, Morgan kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Lucas Kopetzky pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. At bat, Morgan got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs, while Kopetzky went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Stetson Hendren was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Donovan Juarez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Highland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are 8-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Highland pushed their record up to 10-4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Akron, their record is now 14-3.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Akron has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .526. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've averaged .523. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
