Basketball Recap: Jeremy Felix Key Part of a Team Effort in Eagles Win

On Friday, it was close, but the Centennial Eagles sidestepped the ABF Academy Cowboys for a 55-52 victory. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Cowboys are ranked 260th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Centennial got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jeremy Felix out in front who went 6 for 12 on his way to 20 points. Felix has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Vic Jackson was another key player, putting up eight points along with nine blocks and five boards.

When it comes to explaining why ABF Academy lost, don't look at Estoyan Vargas. Despite the final result, he posted 14 points. Miguel Ruiz was another key player, posting nine points.

Centennial has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for ABF Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-5.

Centennial will head out to square off against Windermere Prep at 2:00 p.m. on January 4th. One thing working in Centennial's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight games. As for ABF Academy, they will face off against IMG Academy Black at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. ABF Academy is facing IMG Academy Black at the right time seeing as IMG Academy Black is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
