Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 11 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Smoky Hill Buffaloes proved on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 72-44 win over Valley Vista.
Smoky Hill's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kevin Sylla led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 10 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kaylan Graham, who scored 16 points along with 6 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Valley Vista still got an impressive performance from Nate Cosio, who scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maximus Romero, who scored 9 points.
The victory got Smoky Hill back to even at 1-1. As for Valley Vista, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.
Smoky Hill is on the road again on Saturday and play against Boulder Creek at 3:00 p.m. on December 2nd. Hopefully Boulder Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday. As for Valley Vista, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Regis Jesuit at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Regis Jesuit presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Valley Vista in their respective states (Regis Jesuit is ranked seventh in Colorado, while Valley Vista is ranked 105th in Arizona).
