The Clinton Arrows's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Starkville by a score of 51-48. While losing is never fun, Clinton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Starkville is ranked eighth).
Clinton's loss came despite strong showings from Taelar Felton and Caitlin White. Felton scored 19 points along with two steals, while White scored ten points along with four steals. That was a full 39.6% of Clinton's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jatoi Johnson was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Tootie Lockett continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Starkville, scoring 22 points along with six rebounds. Lockett continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zariyah Edwards, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Clinton's loss dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Starkville, their win bumped their record up to 15-3.
Clinton will head out on the road to take on Murrah at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Murrah is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home. Starkville will take on Madison Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Karley Robinson and Lockett.
