Baseball Recap: Mingo Central Has No Trouble Against Phelps

Mingo Central had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Phelps on Thursday. The Miners blew past the Hornets 15-3. This was payback for the Miners, who suffered a 1-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Dylan Vance was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Aaron Blankenship was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two stolen bases. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Mingo Central is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Dylan Fields also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Mingo Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mingo Central is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Phelps, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Mingo Central will look to defend their home field on Friday against Tug Valley at 5:30 p.m. As for Phelps, they will venture away from home to challenge Grundy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Golden Wave will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Hornets surely won't give up without a fight.
