It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Wilson Tigers ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against South Florence and snuck past 54-52. Winning may never get old, but Wilson sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Leading Wilson to victory were Zoey Miller and Ariana Johnson. Miller scored 17 points, while Johnson scored 17 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Spears, who scored 11 points along with six steals.
Several Bruins players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Krystal Baker, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jada Montgomery, who scored 16 points.
Wilson has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for South Florence, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilson will face off against West Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Florence will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 185th, while Wilson is ranked 36th). As for South Florence, they will head out on the road to face off against Myrtle Beach at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
