The Valley Christian Trojans had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past Payson 41-7 on the road. The result was nothing new for Valley Christian, who have now won four contests by 34 points or more so far this season.
Gunnar Link continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 256 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt. Link is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last five games he's played. Will Bastian was in the mix as well, providing Valley Christian with two touchdowns.
Valley Christian's win was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.6 points per game. As for Payson, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Christian will take on Benjamin Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Benjamin Franklin is ranked 68th, while Valley Christian is ranked 54th). As for Payson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Show Low at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
