STATESVILLE, N.C. - A late missed two-point conversion cost
Statesville (N.C.) as they fell 40-39 to
Mooresville (N.C.).
After trailing 14-13 at the half, the Greyhounds went ahead on a touchdown with 4:00 remaining in the third. Mooresville grabbed hold of the lead when
Thomas Bullock thew a touchdown to
Justin Jones with 1:00 remaining in the fourth quarter, and never relinquished it.
By the end of the third, MHS found itself trailing by six points as Statesville captured the lead thanks to three scores in the quarter. SHS scored on a touchdown run, a two-point conversion and a touchdown catch by
Jaylen Williams in the quarter.
Emmanuel Johnson played well for the Blue Devils in the victory. The junior running back ran for three touchdowns.
The defeat comes as a step back for Statesville, who notched a 35-6 victory over Lexington in its previous outing. With the win Mooresville extended its winning streak to three games.
Statesville (1-4) goes up against Lake Norman in a 4A/3A Conference 3 game matchup next week, while Mooresville (4-1) locks horns with North Iredell also in a 4A/3A Conference 3 game.
