4A Foothills recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mesa Ridge, who took down 45th ranked Canon City, 35-24. Cody Groff threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
The Grizzlies were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to second in 4A Foothills. Mesa Ridge defeated the Tigers 35-24 earlier in the week.
Derek Jackson was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 291 yards on 30 carries as Pueblo West bested Canon City. Rayshawn Fuchs also contributed to the rushing game with 139 yards on the ground.
Mario Sanabria threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns. He went 15-38 with five interceptions.
VanDeCasteel was the best wideout in the league this week as the Grizzlies beat Tom O'Rourke's team. VanDeCasteel racked up four receptions for 88 yards. Jadow Hughes helped Mesa Ridge's passing attack out by catching four balls for 59 yards.
Widefield's Sanabria and Anthony Saunders have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Foothills in both passing and receiving yards. Sanabria has thrown for 727 yards this season, while Saunders, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 13 catches for 222 yards. Jackson from the Cyclones leads the league in rushing with 715 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Pueblo West takes on Cheyenne Mountain. Monte Pinkerton's team is currently in first, while the Indians are in third.
The Cyclones extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Gladiators, 47-35. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
