Volleyball Recap: Merrill Wins Going Away Against Rhinelander

Merrill won the last time they faced Rhinelander and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Bluejays put the hurt on the Hodags with a sharp 3-0 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Bluejays as it spelled an end to their three-match losing streak.

Merrill's got stronger as the match went on, holding Rhinelander to fewer and fewer points set over set. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-16, 25-14.

Avery Hoock was the offensive standout of the contest as she had seven digs and three aces. What's more, she posted four assists, the most she's had since back in September.

They weren't the only good servers: Merrill was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in eight consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Rhinelander still got an impressive performance from Kayla Skubal, who had 12 digs and two aces.

The victory got Merrill back to even at 13-13. As for Rhinelander, they dropped their record down to 2-29 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Merrill didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Stratford on the 9th. As for Rhinelander, after both having extra time off, they and Hurley will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
