Damonte Ranch and Bishop Manogue are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Miners at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Damonte Ranch has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Bishop Manogue will arrive with four straight victories.
Damonte Ranch is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Reed, who was ranked second at the time (Damonte Ranch was ranked 24th). The Mustangs took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders on Saturday.
Olivia Mares made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Glass, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double.
Meanwhile, Bishop Manogue hadn't done well against Reed recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Miners put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 7-1 win. The Miners might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.
Sammi Boggs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kiki Harris, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-4. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Lo Faust was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Bishop Manogue hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in 16 consecutive contests.
Bishop Manogue's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-8-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Damonte Ranch, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Damonte Ranch hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Bishop Manogue struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
