After eight games on the road, South Mecklenburg is heading back home. They will take on the Myers Park Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Mecklenburg knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matches -- so hopefully Myers Park likes a good challenge.
South Mecklenburg posted their biggest victory yet this season on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Coastal Christian 79-33 on the road. Given South Mecklenburg's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Coastal Christian is ranked 263rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Mecklenburg had a senior duo take command as Peter Moye scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and five assists and Anderson Skelton scored 19 points along with two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Skelton has scored all season. Ben Houpt was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Myers Park had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.7 points), and they went ahead and made it ten on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Olympic with a sharp 58-35 win. Myers Park has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 21 points or more this season.
South Mecklenburg's win bumped their record up to 14-1. As for Myers Park, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2.
South Mecklenburg took a serious blow against Myers Park when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 82-38. Thankfully for South Mecklenburg, Elijah Strong (who scored 16 points along with six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
