Omaha Northwest suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 83-43 loss at the hands of Lincoln Southeast. Omaha Northwest was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-18.
Omaha Northwest's defeat came about despite a quality game from Chiok John, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that John posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Dontae McDowell, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Buena Vista, who are still winless after their 11th game. They took a serious blow against Elkhorn South on Thursday, falling 72-35. Buena Vista found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post eight fewer assists than your opponent.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Mogtaba Mohamed, who scored 15 points. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Buena Vista struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-3) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Omaha Northwest's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Buena Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Omaha Northwest have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 21.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Buena Vista, though, as they've been averaging only 29.1 rebounds per game. Given Omaha Northwest's sizeable advantage in that area, Buena Vista will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Omaha Northwest against Buena Vista in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 69-18 victory. With Omaha Northwest ahead 52-9 at the half, the game was all but over already.
