2A District 1 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Hennessey extended the longest winning streak in 2A District 1 this week by beating Alva, 41-21. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Perry took down Newkirk 32-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Austin Allen ran for 163 yards and caught two passes for 21 yards in the win.
Dylan Hatchel and Levi Hill gave Hennessey a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Hatchel threw for 87 yards and two touchdowns, while Hill ran for 227 yards. Octavio Pina also contributed to the rushing game with 33 yards on the ground.
Danner Kiernan was the best wideout in the league this week as Chisholm lost to Tonkawa. Kiernan tallied four receptions for 57 yards. Tyler Downard helped Chisholm's passing attack out by catching two balls for 54 yards.
Brady Nelson made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Longhorns fell to the Buccaneers. The 6-foot-2 senior recorded one fumble.
Hennessey's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Hatchel has thrown for 1076 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, while Edgar Fierro has 27 catches for 472 yards. Hill leads the league in rushing with 1393 yards.
Allen of the the Maroons is only 62 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 169 carries Allen has accumulated 938 yard this year.
Rick Luetjen's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,631 from 2,937. The advance stemmed from a 41-21 victory over the Goldbugs last week.
