Basketball Recap: Academy of Science and Innovation Skates Past Capital Prep with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Academy of Science and Innovation). They claimed a resounding 72-32 win over the Capital Prep Trailblazers. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 50-17.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Academy of Science and Innovation to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mohammad Kulaib, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 11 points along with seven assists and six steals. Kulaib has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Wilbert Franco, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 13 points.

Kulaib wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Academy of Science and Innovation was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Capital Prep's loss on Tuesday came despite strong showings from Javaris Spencer and Syre Gillespie. Spencer dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards, while Gillespie posted eight points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Mha'Nye March, who put up three points.

The victory was the third in a row for Academy of Science and Innovation, bringing their record for this year to 4-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Capital Prep, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Academy of Science and Innovation didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-31 win against Bulkeley on the 9th. As for Capital Prep, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-49 defeat against CREC [Computer Science and Engineering/Academy] on the 10th.
