The Lockney Longhorns will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bovina Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
After a string of five wins, Lockney's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 27-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hale Center.
Despite the defeat, Lockney got a solid performance out of Dyllan Thiebaud, who rushed for 84 yards, and also threw for 151 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Jimenez, who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Bovina suffered a tough 40-18 defeat at the hands of Sudan on Friday. Bovina was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-6.
Despite the defeat, Bovina had strong showings from Angel Lara, who gained 140 total yards and two touchdowns, and Daniel Herrera, who threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns. Lara was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 60 yards.
Lockney's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Bovina, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.
Lockney came up short against Bovina in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 38-26. Will Lockney have more luck at home instead of on the road?
