The Mendenhall Tigers have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were the victim of a rough 68-44 defeat at the hands of Quitman on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Mendenhall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Quitman is ranked 16th).
Quitman's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jahyla Dubuse led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Dubuse hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. AUDRIANA HARRIS was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Mendenhall's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Quitman, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mendenhall is on the road again on Friday and play against Forest at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Quitman, they will square off against Newton at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Newton will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak alive.
