Basketball Game Preview: Bartram Trail Bears vs. St. Augustine Yellow Jackets

The Bartram Trail Bears will take on the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bartram Trail will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Bartram Trail will head into Friday's contest hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 20-point drubbing they dealt Fernandina Beach on Friday. Bartram Trail blew past Fernandina Beach 61-41. The Bears pushed the score to 47-23 by the end of the third, a deficit the Pirates cut but never quite recovered from.

Bartram Trail got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaxon Williamson out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 assists. The dominant performance gave Williamson a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of David Souza, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards.

Williamson wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Bartram Trail was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fernandina Beach only racked up 12 assists.

Meanwhile, St. Augustine unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Leon by a score of 50-48.

Bartram Trail pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for St. Augustine, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.

Bartram Trail didn't have too much breathing room in their game against St. Augustine in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 51-46 win.
