The Rio Grande City Rattlers suffered their closest loss yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Palmview by a score of 54-51. While losing is never fun, Rio Grande City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while Palmview is ranked 185th).
Palmview's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nicole Flores, who scored 20 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Flores has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Hailey Cantu, who scored 15 points.
Rio Grande City's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-11. As for Palmview, the win was the 17th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 25-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rio Grande City won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Nixon at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. The timing is sure in Nixon's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Rio Grande City has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Palmview won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Martin at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Martin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Wednesday.
