Cardinal O'Hara's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Johnson led the charge by scoring 19 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kels Ivey, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds.
St. Mary's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Colin Corcoran, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Corcoran has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Griffin Smith, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Cardinal O'Hara's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for St. Mary's, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
Cardinal O'Hara will look to defend their home court on Friday against St. Francis at 6:00 p.m. St. Francis presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cardinal O'Hara in New York (St. Francis is ranked 220th, while Cardinal O'Hara is ranked 457th). St. Mary's on the road again on Friday and play against St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
