The Rock Hill Bearcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight defeat. They fell 55-48 to Spring Valley. While losing is never fun, Rock Hill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Vikings are ranked 33rd).
Rock Hill lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Nigel Lightner, who scored 12 points. Malik Ashe was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Justin Skelton was his usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with two steals for Spring Valley. Another player making a difference was Joshua Nelson, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Rock Hill has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Spring Valley, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
Rock Hill will be playing in front of their home fans against the Yellow Jackets at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Fort Mill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday. As for Spring Valley, they will head out on the road to square off against the Blue Eagles at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Clover focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
