Meanwhile, Hooper Academy scored the most runs they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Crenshaw Christian Academy by a score of 14-12. Even if the Colts couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Slade Russell was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Russell was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Russell wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Wynn, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Wynn a new career-high in hits (two). Another was Sam Moss, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Hooper Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
