4A/5A Southwest recap Oct. 30, 2012
Grand Junction led 4A/5A Southwest in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on Grand Junction Central. Tyler Heinsma threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
Montrose made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,764 from 3,042. The advance stemmed from a 35-13 victory over Durango last week.
Angelo Youngren was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 177 yards on 20 carries as the Indians bested the Demons. Teammate Mike Rocha added to the ground attack by rushing for 74 yards.
Woodruff was the best wideout in the league this week as Montrose beat Durango. Woodruff tallied three receptions for 76 yards. Youngren helped Montrose's passing attack out by catching three balls for 25 yards.
The Warriors' Mike Price and Josh Weller have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A/5A Southwest in both passing and receiving yards. Price has thrown for 1207 yards this season, while Weller, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 47 catches for 832 yards. Todd Casebier's team's Youngren leads the league in rushing yards with 1498.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Indians take on Grand Junction Central. Montrose is currently in first, while Vern Mcgee's team is in fifth.
