Baseball Recap: Aspen Wins Going Away Against Roaring Fork

After only two runs in their last matchup, Aspen made sure to put some runs up on the board against Roaring Fork on Wednesday. The Skiers put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 16-7 win. The Skiers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by nine runs or more this season.

William Marolt and Tharyn Mulberry made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Marolt pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Mulberry tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Aspen is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-11 otherwise. At bat, Marolt went 1-for-5 with one home run and four RBI, while Mulberry went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Lucas Williams and Mickey Marolt did most of the damage at the plate: Williams went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs, while Mickey went 3-for-4 with three runs and two doubles. Marolt has become a key player for Aspen: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-12 otherwise. Caden LaPointe was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs.

Aspen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Aspen and bumps their season record up to 8-12. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Roaring Fork, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Roaring Fork beat Aspen by a score of 10-0 on Saturday.
