The Newington Nor'easters will take on the Lewis Mills Spartans at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Newington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Newington after they put the first run on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Bristol Eastern by a score of 5-4. The matchup marked the Nor'easters' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Abigail Greaves spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits. The game marked her first with multiple earned runs this season.
At the plate, Kiley Connors was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Peyton Stegmaier also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lewis Mills, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They came out on top against Shepaug Valley by a score of 6-2 two weeks ago. Lewis Mills hasn't had any issues with Shepaug Valley recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Lewis Mills also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Eliza Criss gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Lewis Mills' win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Calleigh Lok, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
This is the second loss in a row for Newington and nudges their season record down to 1-4. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Lewis Mills, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Newington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Lewis Mills struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Newington was able to grind out a solid win over Lewis Mills when the teams last played back in April of 2023, winning 9-4. Will the Nor'easters repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
